Mission & Concept
We, the Ferndale Veterans Memorial strives to honor our local heroes who have given of themselves to protect our everyday freedoms. We strive to provide a place our town can be proud of that goes above and beyond the average memorial.
We long for a site that can not only be used for reflection and memorial,
but for celebration and gathering of our town for various events.
Below is a first rough draft by Robert D. Allen on our plans for the design and layout of the memorial. This plan is subject to change.
Concept & Design
The site will be located atop Church Hill in Ferndale, WA at Bender Park with views of the Cascade Mountains as well as the Puget Sound.
The site will have a separate memorial for every branch of the military amongst a variety of manicured, weaving pathways all culminating with a ' pentagon shaped platform composed of ship deck material honoring the entire military. Atop the platform, a large 18' x 36' granite wall in the design of our American Flag with each branch of the Military's seal raised high above. The wall is where the names of Whatcom County Veteran's that have served and given their lives, an unimaginable price, for our everyday freedoms. The memorial will have benches or some kind of seating for the community to gather.
The memorial will serve a multitude of purposes. A place for quite solitude and reflection, a place for celebration and remembrance of the freedom given to us through sacrifice and honor, a place for the community to visit on such Holidays as Veteran's Day, Memorial Day, and the 4th of July.
